  • International Law and the Information Age

Gamble, John K. (University of Michigan Law School Scholarship Repository, 1996-01-01)
The subject of this article is problematic because of the paucity of other work addressing the topic and its amorphous and technical nature. The author shall argue that the information age will affect almost all aspects of how international law is made and studied, everything from theory to sources to research to teaching. Rather than limiting the article to one or two aspects of the changes brought by the information age, the author offers a tour d'horizon. This risks superficiality, but is consonant with the goal of stimulating discussion about issues that are important to the future of international law.

Objectives. The objective of this study is to evaluate the information quality about pregnancy symptoms in Spanish available in the internet. Materials and methods. This is an analytic, cross-sectional study. In order to evaluate the selected websites, we used a methodology previously validated by Curró et al. The websites were selected from Google, MSN.com and yahoo.com. The quality evaluation included three components: medical contents, accountability and usability of the website. The medical content was compared with the data available in the national guidelines for Comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health, from the Peruvian Ministry of Health. Results. Ninety nine websites in Spanish were evaluated. from them, 26.3% had medium adherence to the gold standard document. In 37.4% the websites were of low quality. A total of 24.2% were blogs, they were associated (as a protrective factor) to sites of poor quality (OR: 0.1, 95% CI: 0.02 to 0.5). Conclusions. The majority of websites in Spanish related to pregnancy symptoms have low quality. These findings indicate the need to properly educate patients and general public, and a critical evaluation of the information quality found at the Internet as well.
  • Accessibility of radiation oncology centers in Turkey through the Internet

YİRMİBEŞOĞLU, Eda; ÖZTÜRK, Ayşen Sevgi; ERKAL, Haldun Şükrü; EGEHAN, İbrahim (İstanbul Üniversitesi, 2008-05-01)
OBJECTIVES The contents of web pages from radiation oncology centers in Turkey were evaluated. Accessibility of the web pages through search engines was also assessed. METHODS A search was made for the presence of web sites for radiation oncology centers of 44 hospitals and for the accessibility of these sites through actively forwarding links using the “Google” search engine. RESULTS All centers had web sites. Twenty-nine centers had actively forwarding links. Web pages from 23 centers included information concerning available treatment options. Web pages from 26 centers included information concerning medical staff. Web pages from 26 centers included information concerning research conducted by the medical staff. Of all web pages, information concerning radiation oncology was available in seven. Using the “Google” search engine, actively forwarding links were found for 21 centers using “radiation oncology” keyword. CONCLUSION As Internet use expands, information requests by cancer patients gain in importance. The need for functional, comprehensive and easily accessible web sites is presently outweighed.
  • SPOŁECZEŃSTWO INFORMACYJNE - POJĘCIE, WPŁYW I MECHANIZMY DZIAŁANIA
