Managing Socio-ecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes for Sustainable Communities in AsiaThis open access book presents up-to-date analyses of community-based approaches to sustainable resource management of SEPLS (socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes) in areas where a harmonious relationship between the natural environment and the people who inhabit it is essential to ensure community and environmental well-being as well as to build resilience in the ecosystems that support this well-being. Understanding SEPLS and the forces of change that can weaken their resilience requires the integration of knowledge across a wide range of academic disciplines as well as from indigenous knowledge and experience. Moreover, given the wide variation in the socio-ecological makeup of SEPLS around the globe, as well as in their political and economic contexts, individual communities will be at the forefront of developing the measures appropriate for their unique circumstances. This in turn requires robust communication systems and broad participatory approaches. Sustainability science (SuS) research is highly integrated, participatory and solutions driven, and as such is well suited to the study of SEPLS. Through case studies, literature reviews and SuS analyses, the book explores various approaches to stakeholder participation, policy development and appropriate action for the future of SEPLS. It provides communities, researchers and decision-makers at various levels with new tools and strategies for exploring scenarios and creating future visions for sustainable societies.
Transactional Clinics as Change Agents in the Trump Era: Lessons from Two ContextsThe results of the 2016 presidential election and the efforts by the Trump administration to make sweeping changes to a wide range of federal policies have left communities across the country feeling overwhelmed and threatened. In its first year, the Trump administration has been working steadily to slash budgets for health care, housing, infrastructure, schools, and other public benefits that help low-income and middle-class Americans, while adopting policies and engaging in rhetoric that has made many immigrants, Muslims, people of color, and LGBTQ people feel increasingly vulnerable and marginalized.The authors of this commentary run law clinics that provide pro bono corporate and transactional legal services to small businesses, nonprofits, cooperatives, and other entities that cannot afford private counsel. We teach at different law schools, in different geographical regions, and, since the election, we have both sought to work through our clinics to help our communities understand and confront the changes brought by the new administration. We work in very different contexts — Appalachia and suburban New York City — and the commentary begins by exploring how these contexts have led us to undertake this work differently. It then looks at the specific changes we have made in the design of our clinic seminars and in the kinds of cases and community projects we have undertaken and describes some lessons we have learned from these initial experiments as we seek to continue these efforts in the future.Corporate and transactional lawyers sometimes find it hard to identify pro bono projects that mesh well with their skills and experience because litigation is often a more visible, tangible need for people who cannot afford attorneys. The article concludes with some ideas of ways that CED lawyers and other corporate and transactional attorneys can engage in similar work outside of the clinical context.
Urban management solutions in promoting Iranian-Islamic lifestyle. (Case Study: Tehran Municipality)The main objective of the present research is urban management strategies for the promotion of Iranian-Islamic lifestyle (Case study: Tehran Municipality). This objective will be achieved through by descriptive-analytical method, the role of the Tehran municipality in achieving this pattern is from the aspects of physical development of Tehran under the title of maintaining Iranian-Islamic identity in physical development, determining the criteria for urban construction based on Islamic criteria and values, The clarity of the Islamic symbols and symbols, the organization of the image and the urban landscape, and research on Iranian-Islamic architecture and urbanization. The results of the research show that the municipality of Tehran can promote the genuine values of the Iranian-Islamic lifestyle and use of the sciences and experiences of human societies based on Islamic teachings and as one of the pillars of authentication and self-sufficiency factor and scientific independence, freedom from feelings of humiliation and Alienation and, ultimately, the social development of society.
The role of islamic banking in the transformation of international corporations as a reflection of modern globalization and migrationModern globalization activates many activities that entropy increases the impact of globalization on the very nature of human civilization (Osipov G, 2015). The contemporary world has gradually developed the characteristics of a kind of global self-regulation, which is still limited in scale. International corporations that use Islamic banking are incorporated into the global processes of world civilization, maintaining socio-economic equilibrium on a worldwide scale. The inclusion of the confessional factor in the processes of globalization, the creation of a single connection of the planetary scale indicates the emergence of a new situation in world society, which in the twenty-first century. Began to represent a unique global economic system with self-regulation, based on universal feedback mechanisms.
Development of Islamic Cultural History Learning Materials in Indonesia’s 2013 CurriculumCurriculum development from Competency-Based Curriculum (KBK 2004) to Education Unit Level Curriculum (KTSP 2006) and Curriculum 2013 occurred in a relatively short period. In short, the timespan of this kind of development then gives rise to various responses from Education practitioners. This study aims to explain how teachers can take steps to develop the materials of the Islamic Cultural History subject in the Islamic Senior High School’s 2013 Curriculum. This type of study is a literature study. The development of learning materials starts with making a mapping or mutual relationship between one Basic Competency with other Basic competencies. The results of the mapping have implications for the emergence of the formulation of the Main Materials. The next step is to develop indicators of Competency Achievement based on Knowledge Basic Competencies and Skills. Based on Competency Achievement Indicators, they are formulated into learning materials, which are the scope of the primary materials. Thus, there will be harmony between learning materials with competence. Further, this harmony leads to the formulation of attitudes or values achieved after learning the Learning materials. The results of this study will facilitate teachers in the preparation of the Syllabus to the Learning Implementation Plan (RPP).
