Abstract
"This paper will deal with the relative independence of the Swedish central election authority, providing both an introduction into the extent of the authority’s independence as well as giving an account of the government’s control mechanisms of the activities of the authority. The word “relative” is used to illustrate a tension between the independence provided by law and other regulations to Swedish state authorities and the government’s necessity to direct the performances of the actors representing “the state”."
