Abstract
Catholic church faces the objection of economy: the economy ought to play by its own rules and not according to moral considerations imposed on it from without. The economy has its own inner logic that should free us precisely from necessity of having to depend on the morality of its participants because the true play of economy laws best guarantees progress and even distributive justice. Nevertheless, the great successes of this claim, concealed its limitations for a long time. Its tacit philosophical presuppositions and thus its problem become clearer that the economy is governed not only by economic laws, but is also determined by men. The economic inequality between the wealthy and pauper, the northern and southern hemispheres of the globe is the proof of the limitation of that presupposition. According to the church, the economy has no meaning in itself. Its meaning layes on its true function, that is, to serving men. The development of all dimensions of men should be goal of the economic activities. Hence, the economy rules, according to the church, must be guided by ethics. It means that whoever participants in the economic activities have ethics-responsibility that the economy should be governed for the shake of goodness of men whoever they are.
