Abstract
"La noticia de que el Centro de Ingeniería Genética y Biotecnología (CIGB) introducirá en un breve plazo especies de plantas transgénicas a escala comercial en Cuba ha sido recibida con optimismo por algunos y con preocupación por otros. Lamentablemente, para la mayoría de la población la noticia pasó inadvertida. A diferencia de otros países, en Cuba no ha tenido lugar un debate nacional sobre la producción y el consumo de alimentos transgénicos. Incluso se comenta que desde hace algún tiempo nos alimentamos con transgénicos sin saberlo. Todo parece indicar que el CIGB recibirá pronto una licencia para cultivar maíz transgénico cubano en miles de hectáreas, y que la introducción de esta tecnología cuenta con el máximo apoyo del Estado" ["The news that the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) entered into a short-term transgenic plant species commercially in Cuba has been met with some optimism and concern for others.
