Abstract
"Para que o trabalho de um intérprete de LGP seja eficaz deve-se ter em conta os aspectos técnicos e a correcção linguística, cultural e social das línguas em presença: a língua oral e a língua gestual e, nalguns casos, uma terceira língua em eventos internacionais. O/a ILGP deve dominar as línguas e culturas em presença e, para que isso aconteça, deve ter tido acesso a uma formação adequada e de elevado grau de exigência, bem como um contacto permanente com a comunidade surda de modo a conhecer e assimilar a riqueza expressiva da Língua Gestual Portuguesa, as suas subtilezas e nuances, o património cultural das pessoas surdas e, por outro lado, compreender os desafios, as barreiras e a luta pela igualdade de direitos e oportunidades dos Surdos portugueses e de todo o mundo" ["For the work of a LGP interpreter to be effective it must take into account the technical and linguistic, cultural and social correction of the languages in presence: oral language and sign language and in some cases a third language at events International.
