Abstract
"The V Conference of the Latin American and Caribbean Bishops celebrated at Aparecida, Brazil, can be understood in relationship and sequence to the previous Conferences and in the context of the last part of the pontificate of John Paul II. Pope Benedict XVI’s programmatic speech presented the fundamental goals of the Conference. The central structure of the document begins with a description of the current crisis of contemporary culture due especially to the globalization process and considers also the significant number of Latin American Catholics who have migrated toward Evangelical denominations. The Catholic Church, aware with gratitude and joy that she is sustained by the truth of the faith in Christ, calls its members to grow in their vocation as disciples and missioners, emerging from their personal encounter with the Lord. Thus touched by that experience, they feel their call to announce the Gospel of the Life to our peoples."
