Abstract
"The concept of ethically correct behavior as a goal and Code of Conduct in the world of business has gained in significance with a rapidity which is seldom seen. Ethically correct behavior is of fundamental importance for every individual, the society in which we live and the entire economy. This we all agree on. But questions abound - what is ethically correct, what are ethics, is there a list of general rules that always apply? Good, bad, right, wrong - these are very general criteria that must be reviewed constantly, reinterpreted and above all reapplied, especially to actual everyday behavior, even if it exacts a price. Interestingly there is no general practice-oriented work providing basic explanations and definitions which takes into consideration the thousands of years of philosophical discussion behind the struggle to develop the correct definition of ethics. KPMG deals with various issues in its daily work. Audit, Tax and Advisory - in addition to the specialist knowledge and skills we provide - these services always have an ethical background and moral viewpoint that also must be considered. For this reason we have prepared a brochure covering this subject. By means of a glossary, an historical overview and articles based on real-life situations, we aim to do our part to promote the understanding of business ethics. By no means is KPMG attempting to set itself up as the guardian of the pure teaching of proper ethics. With this brochure, we attempt to clarify the debate and provide some food for thought.", Editorial, Dr. Hubert Achermann
