Abstract
"Mi primera reacción cuando me pidieron que participara en este panel fue la de que no era yo la persona indicada: ni soy especialista en el pensamiento de Martin Luther King ni provengo de ninguna de las tradiciones que pudieran legitimar mi intervención en él. Quiero empezar por explicarles, entonces, por qué al final acepté hacerlo: entendí que podía ser útil la visión de una persona que se asoma al vasto campo del pensamiento de King y del mundo con el cual se relaciona y comienza a encontrar conexiones y relaciones con tradiciones de las que sí provengo: el pensamiento y la acción de José Martí, el desafío y la praxis de la Revolución cubana, el movimiento de la Educación popular latinoamericana inspirado en el pensamiento de Paulo Freire. De más está decirles que si rescribiera esta intervención a la luz de las preguntas que ya me ha planteado la participación en este seminario, sería distinta. No obstante, quiero compartirla hoy con ustedes tal como está, porque si el legado de Martin Luhter King va a ser relevante ante los desafíos del mundo actual, será porque muchos hombre y mujeres provenientes de muchas tradiciones y disciplinas, de muchos lugares e intereses, de muchos países, colores y credos, seamos capaces de leer esos desafíos y el contenido fundamental del legado de esperanza de King y de Martí, de Ghandi y el Che, de Haydée Santamaría y Amílcar Cabral, de Manuela Sáenz y de Marcos" ["My first reaction when I was asked to participate in this panel was that I was not the right person: I am not a specialist in the thought of Martin Luther King not come from any traditions that might legitimize my work on it. I start to explain, then, why in the end I agreed to do it: I understood that it could be useful vision of a person who faces the vast field of thought of King and the world to which it relates, and begins to find connections and relationships traditions of those that come from: the thinking and action of José Martí, challenge and practice of the Cuban Revolution, the movement of Latin American popular education inspired by the ideas of Paulo Freire. Suffice it to say that if you rewrite this statement in light of the questions already raised by my participation in this seminar would be different. However, I want to share with you today as it is, because if the legacy of Martin Luhter King will be relevant to the challenges of today's world, it is because many men and women from many traditions and disciplines, from many places and interests in many countries, colors and creeds, we are able to read those challenges and the main content of hope King legacy and Marti, Ghandi and Che, Haydee Santamaria and Amilcar Cabral, Manuela Sáenz and Mark"]
