Abstract
"«Muchos viven demasiado, y durante demasiado tiempo penden de sus ramas. ¡Ojalá venga una tempestad que sacuda toda esa podredumbre y el voraz gusano del árbol! ¡Ojalá lleguen predicadores de la muerte rápida! ¡Eso sería para mí la tormenta justa que sacudiría el árbol de la vida! Pero sólo oigo hablar de muerte lenta y de paciencia con todo lo terreno». Tras expresar esta impaciencia entre los años 1883-85, en Así habló Zaratustra, Friedrich Nietzsche no tuvo que esperar demasiado. El jurista Karl Binding y el psiquiatra Alfred Hoche publicaron en Leipzig, en 1920, un escrito titulado «Autorización para eliminar la vida carente de valor. Sus límites y su forma», en el cual se pronunciaban a favor de la permisión legal del suicidio y de la ayuda al mismo. Únicamente se trataría de sustituir una causa de muerte —la esperada muerte natural por una enfermedad grave— por otra, es decir, la inyección letal. «Esto no es en sentido jurídico una acción de dar muerte, sino tan sólo una modificación de la causa de una muerte diagnosticada irrevocablemente: Esto, realmente, es una acción salvadora".
