Abstract
The aim of this article is to explain the politic of Islamic education in Indonesia since the period of Soekarno’s government until the reformation era. The author assumes that Islamic education in Indonesia is influenced by the situation of national politics. In old order and new order period, Islamic education in Indonesia has no significant development. This happens because of the politic condition that did not give the free space movement to Islam. After reformation era, Islamic education developed significantly. The author argues that in this era Islamic education is hoped to be the alternative way for national education which makes Islamic values as the basis within its education system.
