Abstract
One of the important resource for understanding Islam is the figure of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, and he has been subjected to study in Islamic studies, included among the Orientalists. As usual, the scientific study of one issue does not always bear the same views, and this is also visible in Orientalist studies on Muhammad figure who became the focus of this following paper. In general, their views are divided into two sides: the first is as seen in the works of W. Montgomery Watt and the second is reflected in the works of Michael Cook.
