Abstract
A female interpretation of Catholic and communist political cultures, which were the fundamental ideologies of the Franco regime and the opposition, provides us with a fresh perspective to explain the evolution of Spanish society towards democracy. If they began in conflicting positions, from the 1960s onwards, the changes introduced in the discourse and practices of women within the spheres of Catholicism and communism would transform these two political cultures. This process culminated in close collaboration between Catholic and communist feminists in the fight for equality during the political transition.
