The study characterizes some concrete manifestations of sušilism – one of the forms of the national movement in Moravia – in the high phase of its development in the 40th and 50th of the 19th century. This micro-historical probe will present and particularize the personality of a Catholic priest, Vincenc Janalík (1804–1855), whose activities are particularly adherent to the Milotice parish in Kyjov deanery in the archdiocese of Olomouc, as one of the members of the so-called Sušil’s company. The study will observe the pursuance of the sušilist motto „church and homeland“ and point out the role of the chief representative of the Moravian national movement, František Sušil, in the life of this priest. The second part of the study will take a look at the Revolution 1848/49 and the subsequent years through Janalík’s eyes – it will explore the issue of the tithe redemption, financial situation of a rural priest after 1848 and related manifestations of secularism in Janalík’s parish.Date
