O ESOTERISMO NA ACADEMIA: UMA ANÁLISE DO PERCURSO HISTÓRICO E HISTORIOGRÁFICO "The Esoterism in Academy: an analysis about historical and historiographic trajectory"

Abstract

O presente artigo traz um balanço dos estudos historiográficos sobre o esoterismo ocidental que, atualmente, constitui um campo específico de estudos acadêmicos. O esoterismo é aqui considerado como um fenômeno histórico-religioso relevante para a compreensão da moderna cultura ocidental e a trajetória do imaginário mágico-hermético é apresentada em linhas gerais, enfatizando-se o estado atual do debate e sua institucionalização. Conforme se pretende demonstrar, tal debate aborda questões pertinentes às relações reversivas entre os fenômenos da modernidade e da secularização, sendo que um dos méritos dos estudos apresentados é o fato de restituírem ao seu contexto histórico toda uma importante tradição cultural que havia sido relegada ao esquecimento pelo discurso de uma modernidade exclusivamente racionalista.Palavras-chave: Esoterismo Ocidental. Gnose. Religião. Modernidade.AbstractThis article provides a balance of the historiographical studies on esotericism in the West that currently constitutes a specific field of academic study. The esotericism is considered here as a historical-religious phenomena relevant to the understanding of modern Western culture and the history of magic-hermetic imagery is presented in general, emphasizing recent conceptual paradigms and the process of academic studies’ institutionalization. As intended to demonstrate such debate addresses relevant issues about relationship between the phenomena of modernity and secularization, and one of the merits of the presented studies is the fact that repay to its historical context all an important cultural tradition that had been relegated to oblivion the speech by the discourse of a purely rationalist modernity.Keywords: Western esoterism; Gnosis; Religion; Modernity.
