Abstract
The Roman Church is known to have great reservations about economic matters. I argue here that its contribution is much richer than generally supposed. She deals with the economy in a specific register that emphasizes fraternity and gratuity. The point is not only theoretical. It is also embodied in concrete initiatives that seek to promote alternative possibilities in the ways of investing, producing, consuming, distributing wealth... These experiences, even modest ones, can stimulate an imaginary that needs to be liberated from a narrow, even idolatrous, conception of economics.
