Situated at the same latitude as the Roman city of Tiberias (Bernice), which is located on the other side of the lake, some 10 kilometers to the west. Established during Hellenistic times, from which there are just a few traces. The settlement, for the most part, was settled by non Jews. Hippos existed through Roman, Byzantine and Early Muslim period, each contributing to the site's architecture and archaeological findings.Type
