Abstract
Confession, confessionalisationInitially confined to the Germanic world and among historians of the Reformation, the debate concerning confessionalisation has forced scholars to reconsider the religious process engaged in the sixteenth century. The Peace of Augsburg (1555), supported by the Peace of Westphalia (1648), has resulted in the long-term confessional distinction that tightly binds politics, law, and religion. Thus, the Reformation is no longer interpreted as merely a key moment of secularization. The “confessional” is the area where the relationship is built between political, religious, and social affiliation. Furthermore, this interaction is not a simple intersection ; it is an issue stated in new terms. The act of officially establishing a faith is one of the answers offered in the construction of the modern state, one which legalizes diversity by determining which authorities have the right to choose and what texts they can adopt, leading to both the disqualification of other options and the crystallization of legitimate faiths. is one of the answers offered in the construction of the modern state, one which legalizes diversity by determining which authorities have the right to choose and what texts they can adopt, leading to both the disqualification of other options and the crystallization of legitimate faiths.
