• Calculating The Philosophical Significance of The Concept of Religious Freedom in Islam

      The writing attemps to explore the philosophical meaning of the theological messages of Islam on religious freedom. The article do not study the empirical facts of religious freedom practiced by muslims today, but it scrutinizes the theological messages as written in the Qur’an and as showed by the real examples of the God’s Messenger. Through understanding some Qur’anic verses, we will find that Islam strongly encourages the life of different religious people based on the value of freedom. Freedom intended to be a base of religious life is not freedom to do whatever someone wants, but freedom to respect and to protect one another among religious people who are different in religion and faith. This value of message of religious freedom was wonderfully performed in historical practices of the Prophet Muhammad puh. From the Islamic principles of religious freedom that can be underlined, the writing finally tries to elucidate its philosophical meaning. The messages of religious freedom in Islam contain the strong and deep philosophical meaning, because the establishment of religious freedom is based on the fundamental value of human freedom and on the freedom as the nature of life itself.
    • Campaign Socialization Religious Freedom to Tolerance Religion of Student

      This research talks about correlation between campaign socialization freedoms of religion in any mass media to religious tolerance student in campus. Theoretical studies in this research uses mass media effect communication mass media especially Uses and Gratifications theories. Data analysis is  quantitative surveys for 100 students in campus. Finding research explains that in cognitive level just television give impact to understanding for student’s’ religious tolerance. Beside that in conative level impact for student’s religious tolerance come from poster media. This research explains that there are no correlation between socialization campaign and students’ religious tolerance.
    • Character Education Base on Local Wisdom in Aceh (Study on Tradition of Children Education in Aceh Community)

      This study explains about education of children character which base on local wisdoms in Aceh community. The study used historical, sociological and anthropological approach. The local wisdoms have dealt with Islamic religion which is strongly practiced by Aceh community. Religion and Aceh local wisdoms have become part of Aceh community identity for a long time. In this regard, it can be seen in hadih majah (quotes of Aceh): “hukom ngon adat lagee zat ngon sifeut”, it means that religion and tradition are like substance and attribute that cannot be separated. Children education in Acehnese tradition has several phases namely: azan and iqamah, boh nan (naming of child), peutron aneuk (bringing of child into the ground), aqīqah (sacrificing of goat for new-born baby), doda idi (singing and telling story to the child), euntat beut (bringing of child to Islamic school to recitate the holy Quran), peutamat beut (make special party for children after their finishing recitating of the holy Quran). The result of this study shows that those traditions were very important identities to the children of Aceh particularly to perform a good characters and personalities. It also can grow values of tauhid, kindness, togetherness, and intelligence.
    • Character Education Values That Work in Islamic Senior High School Setting

      The purpose of study is to discover the character education values that are integrated in lesson plan, implemented in the classroom setting, and classroom academic rules. This is a case study research that focused on describing the integration of character education program in the Model Islamic senior high school of Makassar, Indonesia. Fifty lesson plans were collected, twenty six informants were observed, and five informants were interviewed to have data on character education values that work. The data were analyzed using qualitative approach; data reduction, data display, conclusion, and verification. The result showed that (1) there are eighteen character education values written in the lesson plan; religious, honest, tolerant, discipline, hard working, creative, independent, democratic, curiosity, the spirit of nationalism, love to motherland,  appreciation of achievement, friendly, peaceful, love to read, environmental and social care, responsibility, (2) the values that work in the classroom are religious, trustworthy, respectfulness, diligent, fair, care, integrity, responsible, honest, love to motherland, courage, and (3) the values that work in the academic rules are disciplines, care, tolerant, friendly, responsible.
    • Communication Strategies to Prevent Terrorist Group’s Radical Ideology and Doctrine within Islamic Universities at Central Sulawesi

      The development of terrorist groups continues to undergo metamorphosis through the transformation of the communication network and radicalism doctrine. This phenomenon makes affiliation efforts with radical groups, including building networks in the higher education. Radical Ideas easily penetrate campuses and universities. The vulnerability is not only seen from a psycho-social approach alone, but also as in instrument or media that outspread hatred and violence that designed to fit campus lifestyle. Some of the ways are such as books, magazines, bulletins, internet and social media networks. Universities can formulate appropriate and effective communication strategies as an effort in de-radicalisation, indoctrination, and de-ideologisation. Altering Islamic stigma as a terrorist religion and eliminating the image of Indonesia as implementing the teachings of Islam substantively according to Indonesian Islamic localities can do a terrorist country. Islam penetrated and developed in Indonesia not based on violence or religious radicalism, but by reflecting the spirit of Islam as the religion of blessing to the world (rahmatan lil alamin).

      This article aims to elaborates M. Quraish Shihab's thoughts on the concept of tajdīd in addressing the challenges of globalization. In conducting legal reasoning, M. Quraish Shihab distinguishes between principles and particulars (al-qat’ī min al-zannī), understanding the legal sources contextually and allegorically. M. Quraish Shihab's legal response in fatwas based on the moderation paradigm, ease and far from being fanaticism. It is very frequently happening that the choice and answer to the law and the fatwa of M. Quraish Shihab opposite the mainstream, such as the ability to choose a leader who is not a religious leader congratulates Christians on the Christmas day and does not require a headscarf. For these different opinions, liberal accusations are often pinned to M. Quraish Shihab.

      This research focuses on the process of understanding the implementation of character education in SMA Negeri 3 Malang through Bedhol Bhawikarsu activities. This activity is organized by and for students in rural communities under the guidance of educators. On one hand, this activity is designed with the hope of internalizing normative values character ​​in students. Therefore, this research will understand the design and implementation of character education models based on normative values. This research uses a qualitative approach to produce descriptive data in the form of written, oral, and observable behaviors. Data were collected by interview, observation and documentation methods, and then analyzed by interactive analysis of Miles and Hubermann. This research concludes character education through the direct implementation of Bedhol Bhawikarsu in society can internalize values ​​such as the values ​​of honesty, tolerance, religiosity, patriotism, hard work, and also independence. These character values ​​are forms of values ​​that are sourced from Islamic values. Therefore, the construction of the character education organization will be able to be realized through activities that unravel a lot of Islamic values ​​to be internalized in students.

      This article aims to describe the material needs, welfare, consumer society, and consumption in Islam. The results of the study show that consumption is a very important economic activity in human life. In fulfilling their needs, the consumer society should not only satisfy individual interests (self-interest), but must consider social welfare and benefits. Islam offers a balanced consumption pattern that is neither tabdjir nor ishraf. Consumption in the view of Islam is not merely an activity to meet material needs, but includes the fulfillment of spiritual aspects, namely worship of Allah SWT so that prosperity in the world and the hereafter is achieved. The concept of consumption is full of values, clear and broad goals, principles and ethics. The implication is that consumption activities should be a way and effort to prosper (falah).

      This paper aims to respond contextualization of divorce through in fiqh and national law in Indonesia. This study is conducted with a qualitative descriptive using normative theological, sociological, and formal juridical approaches. The study shows that;1) divorce is absolute right of a husband to his wife so that it is legitimate, the belief is actualized that divorce is spoken by husband is a legitimate fiqh perspective, because the law automatically applies who said it; 2) Divorce is done outside the Religious Court there is no legal force, wife cannot claim her rights, Islamic society must obey the legal system in Indonesia although talak is sourced from fiqh can apply automatically, but islamic society cannot ignore in law enforcement from the legal system that applies in Indonesia.

      This article examines the method of interpretation of Bint al-sya-i  by studying his book Tafsir al-Tafsir al-Bayâniy li al-Qur'an al-Karim. It has been found that the method applied by al-sya-i' was patterned literature i.e. literary exegesis which is designed to be inter-interpretation of the Quranic text which methodologically, can be considered modern. The method used a thematic approach (maudu'i) in interpreting the Koran and stressed the need for interpretation of philology, based on the chronological text and the use of Arabic semantics. This thematic approach was a response to the classical method of interpretation of the Qur'an by contemporary experts. It is then applied by al-Syathi in his commentary that contains fourteen chapters started Makkiyah entitled “al-Tafsi r  li al-Bayan al-Qur'an al-Karim.”

      This paper describes the pattern and characteristics of literal fiqh, jurisprudence that legal opinion can be deduced from the Koran and the hadith texts. Textual understanding is characterized by an emphasis on language analysis. Literal jurisprudence manifests form is evident in the school of Zhahiri with Ibn Hazm as the central scholar. Analytical description of jurisprudence in this paper is compared with substantialrationale base jurisprudence; therefore, the second mode of jurisprudence is seen between the two specifications. One who studies jurisprudence is encouraged to browse and find out where the basic norms or philosophical values, where the norms and the concrete rules that are classified as instruments.
    • Counter-radicalism and Moderate Muslim in Jember

      This paper marks an attempt to understand and explain the cultural movement of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah -two moderate Islamic organization with the largest mass in Indonesia - in countering the penetration of religious radicalism in Jember --one district in East Java. Despite using a different platform and approach, namely Islam of Archipelago and Islam Progressive, but the two organizations have the same prophetic political mission to fight all forms of radicalism in the name of religion. This paper argues that both the organization itself, it is still as a progressive pillar of Indonesian civil Islam who are concerned in fighting the agenda of tolerance, pluralism and democracy. Both also always positioned itself as an anti-thesis and always take opposition to radicalism forces. However, religious radicalism is a serious threaten especially to fight the agenda of diversity and peaceful coexistence of religious differences. So far, this paper intends to elaborate progressive ideas among moderate Muslims -NU and Muhammadiyah-- in consolidating themselves to stem the flow of radicalism.

      This paper focus on the Culture-Led Development (CLD) role on the exploration of industrial and personal heritage management that encourages the development of SMEs as it has been implemented in Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam. This qualitative research with an antrophology approach was conducted with semi-structured interviews beside the observation and documentation involving 13 SMEs entrepreneurs, who have produced traditional or handicraft items, in 2018.  The empirical data was used to illustrate the implementation of culture in business development. The term heritage has been identical with the sustainability of SMEs. The CLD helps change the entrepreneurs' way of thinking as it promotes innovative products that are environmentally friendly and are able to elevate cultural values and tradition. This research finds that culture and heritage-based management have strong implications for the SMEs development.

      The article aims to understand the application of contemporary dakwah in Bulukumba as an effort to tackle religious radicalism. This highlighted from a characteristic contemporary priests, contemporary dakwah materials and media of contemporary dakwah and the role of dakwah in counteracting religious radicalism in Bulukumba district of South Sulawesi.  The result of this research shows that in general dai (priests) including contemporary dai. At this point, it can be said that one of the characters contemporary dakwah is contemporary priests themselves. The priests, mostly still focused on the traditional ways in presenting Islam when they give presentations. Meanwhile, matters such as contemporary medium had not been fully employed well. Ultimately, the priests play important roles in order to counter and prevent religious radicalism, and they have the role to explain proportional religious thoughts.
    • Democracy in Indonesia Towards Mangkunegaran: The Fade of Javanese Royal Palace's Political Power

      Mangkunegaran in early establishment initially had a capacity and authority armed with forces and territory, which currently only deemed as one of the cultural guardian institution even more physically interpreted as a cultural heritage object. This study uses descriptive-qualitative approach under the paradigm of critical approach using semiotic theory. Data collection was done through the literature studies, observation, and in-depth interviews. The results of this study indicate that the inability of Mangkunegaran to dampen the Anti-Swapraja Movement is actually the beginning for waning power politics in Mangkunegaran in the royal system with the doctrine of keagungbinataraan. Declarations to declaration issued by KGPAA Mangkunegara VIII to face the Anti Swapraja movement was compeletely ignored by the society. In traditional Javanese life, it is signed by oncate (the loss of) wahyu kedhaton of Mangkunegaran. In the end the Swapraja Region in Surakarta was revoked, Mangkunegaran has no authority as the center of government. The comparisons of Surakarta before and after independence provide a complete picture for the social change. The change of absolute power to democracy shows a contrasting picture in the historical episode, i.e. the shift of feudal society into a democratic. A society with almost no power becomes a major entity in the life of the Indonesian state.

Decentralisation, politically, has significantly shaped the relationship between the central and local governments. Therefore, many have believed that the decentralisation is equivalent to the democratisation process. In this article, we attempt to answer these questions: (1) is the decentralisation compatible with consolidated democratisation in Indonesia? (2) How is “the rule by people†implemented for the sake of democracy; in other words, how local people fill these spaces? In this article, we argue that there has been a connection between democratisation process and decentralisation. However, the relationship seems to be superficial.

      The dialog between local culture and religion cannot be separated with the history of religious communities in Indonesia. This article is aimed to describe a form of dialogue between local culture and religion among Muslims of Hatuhaha community in the Central Moluccas. It is particularly to understand forms of dialogue between local culture and religion, specifically Islam in Indonesia. This article is based on a field research in the Haruku island of Central Moluccas in 2009 by using qualitative method. It has been found that, firstly, there has a constructive dialogue between Islam as a religion and local culture since the religion was accepted as a “new ideology” within island communities in Indonesia. Secondly, there are three models of dialogue between the religion and local culture, i.e. “domination”, “accommodation”, and “contextual”.
