AbstractThis collection contains genealogical tables and family trees covering the period from the 17th century through the 1990s, photocopies of marriage and citizenship records dating to the 19th century, passports and a letter which document the Cortell and Wolfson families' flight to Paris, and several letters and dozens of photographs which document Jules Cortell's professional activities in the international travel industry after the second World War, as well as his philanthropic work.

Upon their emigration to the United States, Julius and Margot Kochertaler changed their names to Jules and Margot Cortell. Before settling in the United States, they had fled the Nazi dictatorship for Paris. After the war, Cortell founded the Europacar tourist agency, which specialized in car tours. He also devoted considerable energy to philanthropy as a member of the American Jewish Committee.

Injuries in elite male kitesurfersEliseo Andreu-Cabrera; Marcelo Jove-Tossi; Concepción Suárez-Llorca; Juan M. Cortell-Tormo; José A. Pérez-Turpin; Vicente Carrasco-Embuena (FEADEF, 2011-06-01)A relatively new extreme sport, kitesurf hasn’t received the kind of scientific scrutiny found with other more traditional sports. Currently, the pattern and rate of kiteboarding injuries are largely unclear. The objective was to identify common injury patterns as well as potential areas in which prevention measures might be instituted. A descriptive epidemiological study was designed and a retrospective questionnaire was performed on 38 elite kitesurfers taking part in the World Cup Fuerteventura 2008. The ankle is the part of the body most affected by injury p<0.01, whilst the Course Race category accounted for 68.4% of injuries, compared with 31.6% in the Freestyle category. Said injuries occurred more frequently when training (76.3%; p<0.01) than during competitions and acute injuries were the most common. These results show the need to establish new prevention methodologies, above all for the legs and specifically for the ankle area and in the Course Race category, as well as the use of foot protections
Building an Online Tutoring Program: A Blueprint for SuccessBakir, Lena; Cortell, Richard (Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE), 2002)Online Tutoring: A Blueprint for Success Many administrative decision-makers in higher education must deal with the results of the ongoing proliferation of instructional technology systems at their institutions. The result of this dynamic technological climate and the demands of "education consumers", and the job market, is that these administrative decision-makers fall into the uncertain trap of needing to approve the expenditure of tens, perhaps hundreds, of thousands of dollars on equipment and services they may know little or nothing about. These people need accurate and useful information in order to make sound decisions. In the case of online tutoring they need at least a basic understanding of the hardware, software, delivery systems, costs, personnel, and the myriad of other items required to develop and operate such a program. The reliability of information upon which this understanding is based is critical. It may well determine the eventual success or failure of their program. Administrative decision-makers are often faced with the prospect of having to rely upon inexperienced peers and over-eager sales people for advice and guidance when making decisions about instructional technology implementation. If this is the case, they ask, where can they get the reliable information they need to make these important decisions? Fortunately, there are other accessible sources they can use to gather needed information. These include the Internet, articles containing the recorded trials and errors of other institutions of higher education, paid consultants, workshops, and presentations like this. What is extremely valuable and useful is an understanding of the process of conceiving, developing, and operating an online tutoring program, a blueprint for success, if you will. The presenters use the examination of this process as a catalyst for thought and discussion on the topic and a means of providing education administrators and decision-makers with some insight and information that will help them better understand the issue when they are required to make decisions related to implementing online tutoring programs at their institutions. This presentation provides a glossary of many of the terms, and an outline of the needs and activities required to plan, develop, and operate an online tutoring program. While it is not complete in every detail, it provides decision-makers with a starting point and enough information to ask intelligent questions. First, we will examine the shift from the elite to the universal system of higher education in America. Next, we will examine the role and definition of technology within higher education and how its dynamic nature has given rise to the popularity of online instruction. Then, we will examine how the development of online courses led to the addition of online tutoring. Next, we will examine the reasons it is important that administrators and decision makers within higher education need to understand basic needs of an online tutoring program before implementing their own. Finally, we will outline the major steps involved in conceiving, developing, and operating an online tutoring program. Una aproximación desde el aprendizaje servicio y la Teoría del DonPuig Rovira, Josep M.; Graell Martín, Mariona; Cortel Mañé, Gal·la (Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca (EspaÑa), 2016-10-11)The altruistic donation of blood recommended by the World Health Organisation and carried out through blood banks not only contributes to providing the health system with an indispensable therapeutic element, it is also a means of fostering social integration and educating for citizenship. Within this general context, the article begins by arguing why altruistic donation is better than buying and selling blood and why the gift theory – developed by sociology on the basis of the work by Marcel Mauss – more than justifies the possibility of meeting the demand for blood in this way. On the basis of these considerations it can be said that blood banks are social institutions that perform three basic functions: technical, civic and educational. The article continues by examining the educational project undertaken by the Blood and Tissue Bank of Catalonia, which consists in a programme based on the methodology of service learning and which invites young people to cultivate and develop a communicative approach to promoting the altruistic donation of blood in their neighbourhood. The article concludes by evaluating the consolidation, effectiveness and degree of satisfaction of the project, and suggesting that this model can be used to form the basis of ideas for educational proposals of other social institutions.
