Abstract
Method is an important aspect in teaching learning process. It can help teachers to be aware of the thoughts that guide their action in teaching. By using the methods in the class, the teachers will be able to transfer the information, select the resources, and define the roles of the students more easily. One factor that influences the effectiveness of teaching and learning process is perception. Perception is the result of the organization and interpretation of the situation around the individual and the outcome of this process will be different from one another because it is influenced by the factors that affect perception. StudentsÂ’ perception is important because it affects their attitude and motivation.

This study described the methods used by the teacher and the implementation of the methods in teaching English and studentsÂ’ perception toward the methods in the International Class at SMP Al-Izzah Islamic Boarding School.

This study used a descriptive qualitative design. The research subjects of this study were an English teacher and 30 students in the second grade in the International Class at SMP Al-Izzah Islamic Boarding School. The instruments used in this study were observation, interview and likert scale.

The result of this study showed that the teacher implemented three methods. They were audio-lingual method especially for listening subject; direct method especially for speaking and reading skill; and STAD (Students Team Achievement Division) especially for writing skill. After that, the teacher applied those methods through three stages; they were pre-teaching activities, whilst teaching activities and post teaching activities. Therefore, the students gave positive perception toward the method used by the teacher. The students perceived that those methods could make them easy to understand the materials and make them enjoy in teaching learning process.
