Les compléments à l’école : comment s’y retrouver ? Perspectives linguistiques et pistes didactiques

Abstract

L’objectif de cette contribution est d’interroger la complémentation verbale et plus précisément les fonctions Complément d’Objet Direct (COD), Complément d’Objet Indirect (COI) et Complément Circonstanciel (CC) d’un point de vue didactique, la reconnaissance de ces différentes fonctions posant bien souvent problème aux écoliers et collégiens. À partir d’un questionnaire, nous avons cherché à évaluer les compétences d’élèves de fin de cycle 3/début de collège relativement à ces fonctions et à mettre au jour leurs procédures pour les identifier. Une analyse de manuels scolaires (CM2) permet également de faire le point sur le traitement de ces fonctions et de voir comment elles sont abordées et se construisent avec les élèves. Enfin, sur la base de ces observations et en prenant appui sur différents travaux, nous ébauchons quelques propositions pour l’enseignement-apprentissage de ces fonctions grammaticales.

This contribution will focus on the question of the verbal complementation and more precisely on these grammatical functions from a didactic point of view: the direct object (Complément d’Objet Direct or COD), the indirect object (Complément d’Objet Indirect or COI) and the adverbial phrase (Complément Circonstanciel or CC). The identification is quite often problematic for children attending primary and junior high school. The purpose was to evaluate the abilities of young students in their last year of cycle 3 (fifth grade) / starting junior high school on the basis of a test about these functions and to improve their methods to recognize them. Moreover, an analysis of fifth grade’s textbooks (CM2) enables to review with the children the process of these functions, how they can be approached and how they are constructed. Finally, on the basis of these observations and by leaning on different works, we can make some submissions for the teaching and learning of these grammatical functions.
