[[abstract]] This thesis examines the process of developing a Web-based Instruction for teaching Arts and Humanity curriculum units through a public educational website-- School for All--http://educlasses.educities.edu.tw/. The on-line program incorporates the theme of Arts and Humanity from the existing junior high school art classrooms among secondary and junior students. The study took place in one inner city, including 12 art classrooms, in the Lu-kang junior high school, Chung-hua area. The students are regularly exposed to a computer-based instruction and web-based instruction program that is examined in terms of the potential influences of web-based instruction on an individual's disposition toward learning and student's social and cultural position are also interpreted and observed. This research is a case study conducted in reality a qualitative description of the action method and use participant-observation as a data collection technique. The questionnaire survey is also implemented as part of data collection and data analysis. This research in instructional technologies can benefit other schoolteachers who struggle with ways of teaching with new computer technologies and implications for teaching Arts and Humanity centered curricula. Alternatively, the creation of web-based instruction curriculum can be used for sharing new information and exchanging curriculum among art teachers who are interested in using Internet for learning and teaching. The purpose of this research is threefold: (1) to understand the current use of web-based instruction in teaching children's art education; (2) to present an alternative case for a version of educational technologies like World Wide Web (Web), which is aligned with the needs of art teachers and their knowledge-making processes through the use of computer technologies; (3) to examine the development of web-based instruction as a tool that helps junior high school students to recognize the importance of sociocultural contexts and meanings of Arts and Humanity. This thesis consists of four parts. In part 1, I look at the educational websites in Taiwan, and the sites contributing to the needs of junior high school teachers in art education. Part II, I look at the problems and limitations of using Internet teaching in school art education settings, including training teachers with computer skills and knowledge. Part III is a notebook that records my on-line research processes and teaching observations. Part IV is a written survey that evaluates students learning after the on-line course is finished.
