Aceh is known as the land of rencong (reuncong). Researchers interested in
 reviewing of the causes reuncong become a symbol of Aceh and also the meaning
 of the symbol. Reuncong have specific meanings. On the handle, trunk and glove
 reuncong eyes are ornaments or ornament also has a meaning or to decorate a
 beautiful course.
 To answer the above statement the author uses qualitative research methods
 deskriprif. Model studies semiotics reuncong ornaments using a model study
 denotative and connotative. The data obtained from the literature references and
 interviews. In answer to the meaning of rencong along with the ornament author
 uses the theory of Roland Barthes. Meanwhile, to assess the aesthetic value of the
 collection of the Museum Aceh reuncong authors use the contextual theory.
 To assess the value of symbols and meanings rencong aesthetics can not just
 rely on the value of a formal review, but also have to examine in its historical
 context as well.
 If we lookedat history can be concluded that the ornaments on rencong
 strongly influenced by the concept of a strong Islamic values.
Aceh dikenal sebagai tanah rencong (reuncong). Peneliti tertarik mengkaji
 tentang sebab-sebab reuncong menjadi simbol Aceh dan juga makna dari simbol
 tersebut. Reuncong memiliki makna tertentu. Pada gagang, batang mata serta
 sarung reuncong terdapat ragam hias atau ornamen juga memiliki makna atau
 sebagai penghias yang indah saja.
 Untuk menjawab pernyataan tersebut di atas penulis menggunakan metode
 penelitian deskriprif kualitatif. Model pengkajian semiotika ornamen reuncong
 menggunakan model kajian makna denotatif dan konotatif. Data-data didapatkan
 dari literatur pustaka dan hasil wawancara. Dalam menjawab makna dari rencong
 beserta ornamennya penulis menggunakan teori Roland Barthes. Sementara untuk
 mengkaji nilai estetika dari reuncong koleksi Museum Aceh penulis
 menggunakan teori kontekstual.
 Untuk mengkaji nilai simbol dan makna estetika rencong tidak bisa hanya
 mengandalkan tinjauan nilai formal saja tetapi juga harus mengkaji secara konteks
 sejarahnya juga.
 Dintinjau dari sejarah dapat disimpulkan bahwa ornamen pada rencong sangat
 dipengaruhi oleh konsep nilai Islam yang kuat.
