Une sociologie avec les animaux : faut-il changer de sociologie pour étudier les relations humains/animaux ?

Abstract

Le présent article se donne pour premier objectif de brosser un panorama des recherches francophones qui intègrent les animaux dans l’analyse sociologique. Il tente de déployer le spectre recouvert par une telle ambition et identifie pour cela différentes manières d’articuler « sociologie » et « animaux » (la sociologie des animaux, la sociologie par les animaux, la sociologie pour les animaux). Il défend – et c'est là le second objectif – l'intérêt et l'originalité d'une sociologie avec les animaux, qui implique de porter une attention toute particulière à la relation plutôt qu'aux termes de celle-ci : plutôt qu'une interrogation métaphysique sur ce qu'est l'humain (et corrélativement, ce que devrait être une science de l'homme) et ce que sont les animaux, il s'agit de porter son attention sur les relations anthropozoologiques en tant qu'elles sont observables et analysables à différents niveaux. Pour certains, une telle posture suppose parfois un certain nombre de décentrements épistémologiques. Selon nous, elle rend surtout possible la prise en compte de nouveaux objets et terrains, encore relativement inexplorés.

Sociology with animals: do we need to change sociology to study human-animal relationships?The first objective of this paper is to depict a panorama of the French-speaking research which integrates animals into sociological analysis. Our aim is then to display the spectrum covered by such an ambition, and to identify different ways to articulate “sociology” and “animality” (“sociology of animals”, “sociology through animals”, “sociology for animals”). We argue for the interest and the originality of a sociology with animals, that implies to pay particular attention to the relations (instead of focusing only on the terms of relations): rather than a metaphysical interrogation on what caracterizes humans (and correlatively, on what humanities should be), and what caracterizes animals, this approach consists in paying attention to the anthrozoological relationships as they are observable and analyzable through different levels. For some, this ambition sometimes requires a number of epistemological shifts. Above all, the authors claim that this approach makes new objects and relatively unexplored fields available for sociological research.

Una sociología con los animales : ¿Es necesario cambiar de sociología para poder estudiar las relaciones de los humanos con los animales?El presente artículo tiene como objetivo principal el establecer un panorama de las investigaciones francófonas que integran los animales en el análisis sociológico. Intenta desplegar el abanico recubierto por una tal ambición y para ello identifica las maneras operativas de la sociología « de los animales, por los animales y para los animales ». Argumenta, y es este el objetivo siguiente, el interés y la originalidad de una sociología con los animales, lo que implica un interés particular a la relación en lugar de los términos de esta relación: en lugar de una interrogación metafísica sobre lo humano (y de manera correlativa lo que sería una ciencia social del hombre), y lo que son los animales, se trata de llamar la atención sobre las relaciones antropozoológicas en la medida en que son observables y analizables a diferentes niveles. Para algunos, este posicionamiento implica un cierto número de descentramientos epistemológicos. Para nosotros, nuestro encaminamiento hace fácil el tomar en cuenta nuevos objetos y contextos aún poco explorados.
