This study applies the Communicative Model of Collaborative Learning (CMCL) to analyze and investigate communicative Web-based thematic learning activities by the fifth-grade students from elementary schools. The main discoveries are as follows; 1) the discussion board was the most popular communicative tool in this case; 2) the communication frequency and type differ with the stage of thematic learning process, and 3) Web-based thematic learning was successful, according to CMCL analysis. The findings imply that 1) instructional design is strongly related with to successful Web-based learning, and 2) the CMCL can help to elucidate the quality of a Web-based learning activity.Date
