AbstractPolice training is not immune to the advent of online teaching and learning. Faced with constant changes in laws, geographical jurisdiction and procedures, the Police Department at the University of Central Florida had to look deep and hard into bringing its training methods to the 21st century. Many challenges and opportunities were encountered in this transformation process. Among the outcomes of this effort was the realization that the online component of the course became not only a teaching and learning tool but also a form of electronic performance support mechanism which officers can use to perform their daily tasks in the field. This effort quickly extended its training objectives not only for new recruits but also for ongoing in-service training. In this paper, the authors will share their experiences, the transformation process and current efforts to improve the online training program and the opportunities that have developed from it.
