AbstractThis paper describes the theory and practice of the Web Institute for Teachers,a professional development experience held at the University of Chicago during the pastthree summers and planned to be held in summer of 2000. The Institute is based on theprinciple that teachers should be at the center of curriculum development and that the bestway to teach this process is to engage them in it. The authors, including the director ofthe Institute along with two teachers who were originally learners and are now "mentors"in the Institute, describe their experiences and indicate some ways in which the Institutecan be improved.
