The primary purpose of this paper is to describe a collaborative professional developmenteffort focusing on using Internet for instruction and educational reform. This is a collaboration betweena large urban district and science educators at an urban university for the purpose of working withscience, mathematics and social studies teachers to develop their abilities to use telecommunicationsfor professional development, curriculum development, and instruction in the classroom. This paperwill address the program design, targeted outcomes, and successes, as well as, the difficulties faced byurban teachers as they attempted to implement Internet-based instruction and the solutions that enabledthem to develop effective and collaborative Internet-based lessons.Date
