Singaporean Adolescent Perceptions of Online Social Communication: A Factor Analysis
AbstractThe current study investigated adolescents’ perceptions in online social communication. Three factors were identified perceived by adolescents as critical to online social communication. They include social environment, self-confidence, and self-control. Results showed significant differences between the factors derived from current study and those in the literature. Three regression analyses were conducted to determine the predicative power of variables like demographic information and online experience on adolescent perceptions in online social communication. Discussions were made focusing on the implications of the findings for online educators. Suggestions for future research were also made to generate findings that would be applicable and generalizable to a larger population.
