AbstractThe Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board called upon the Dallas County Community College District to develop a distance learning product to address the teacher shortage in Texas. Extensive research was conducted and results projected more than 50% of all new teaching positions would be filled by alternatively or emergency certified personnel within the next six years. Dallas TeleLearning, a part of the Dallas County Community College District, along with faculty from Arizona State University developed a technology-based, video-rich, professional development program. The courseware contains interactive learning environments to provide a research-based, field-tested teacher induction program for the mentor teacher and the beginning teacher.
