Conducting a Mathematics Professional Development Workshop Across the World over Video Conference Facilities

AbstractProviding effective professional development for mathematics teachers is a challenging task. It is nearly impossible when it has to be done across the world. This paper describes the experience and methodologies used to provide professional development for large numbers of teachers in Sri Lanka from USA using distance learning facilities, Internet, tools and other freeware. Data was collected about the effectiveness of the program and anecdotal evidence was used to gain the usefulness of such a workshop. This paper will discuss the findings and techniques and methodologies used in this large and interesting endeavor.
