IP Videoconferencing in Distance Education: Ideas for a Successful Integration

AbstractPeople can perform easily videoconferencing communication with their friends thanks to Instant Messenger programs. Distance learning system developed for the Internet are often said to lack of Interactivity. Videoconferencing would be an interesting solution to answer this problem. However, synchronous collaborative-based environment have been available for years but they are not used very often. In an experiment realized in Tokushima University, we identified some problems that may restrict the use of such videoconferencing system. This feedback is presented and solutions to improve synchronous collaborative environments are proposed.
