A Preliminary Study on the Impact of Web Annotations in eLearning Environments
AbstractMany concepts, methods and technologies regarding computer supports in eLearning environments have been proposed. eLearning systems are being used in a wide area, ranging from education in schools and universities, to training and skill-up support, due to the flexibility and convenience they provide. Some researchers have realized the importance of adding the functionalities to add annotations, such as memos, marks and tags to the electronic learning content. Thus, there are a number of reports about the design and implementation of Web-based annotation support systems. However, the measurement of the impact of Web annotations is missing. In this paper, we report on a preliminary study we have performed, regarding the impact of Web Annotations in eLearning environments, with focus on the effects of marking in electronic texts on the learning process.
