AbstractSince the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics has published the Principles and Standards on Mathematics Education, approaches in mathematics education stress the development of mathematics literacy as the major objective of mathematics education. Hybrid learning environments (HLE) integrate ideas of traditional classroom teaching and opportunities of e-learning. The purposes of the present paper are (a) to describe the design and implementation of a HLE on stochastics, and (b) to report teacher’s and students’ experiences observed within this HLE. The HLE was rooted in social-constructivist approaches of teaching. For designing the e-learning component of the HLE we used the authoring tool ‘study 2000’. Results of the evaluation reveal a high satisfaction of students, especially with the possibility of individual control and time management when using the e-learning component.
