Virtual Knowledge Structuring and Videoconferencing in a German-Chinese Teaching and Research Cooperation Project

Abstract

Teaching and research cooperation between the University of Paderborn in Germany and the Qingdao University of Science and Technology in Qingdao, China has led to the establishment of a joint faculty. To further intensify cooperation, an e-learning project has been launched that aims to build an infrastructure allowing joint online access to teaching material in Paderborn and Qingdao. Also planned is a project enabling students to participate in courses of the partner univesity by means of videoconferencing. This paper outlines the special requirements for such an e- learning platform and videoconferencing system, reports on the current status of work and shows what remains to be done in order to make effective use of the e-learning platform and videoconferencing system to step up cooperation.
