Technology infusion into the elementary curriculum has been a major goal of Project Impact, a PT3 grant at the University of Tennessee. In this session, two future teachers and their mentors present the results of technology integration activities in K-3 classrooms. Using principles of universal design to guide planning for diverse learning needs, the teachers developed technology applications that met NETS and state learning standards in Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. Discussion includes the impact on student achievement and recommendations regarding training, support, and software selection in a K-3 environment. Technology integration examples include first graders using databases, third graders using Kid Pix to describe the solar system, and a future teacher using an interactive power point with students to reinforce money, time, and state facts.Date
