A Model System for Presenting Faculty Information on the Web

Abstract

It is critically important for colleges and universities to present faculty to varied audiences on the web in the best way possible. In doing so, we need something more informative, dynamic, and engaging than a "My Homepage" model or simple e-mail directory. But we must balance the institutional need for consistency with faculty control and flexibility. At Claremont McKenna College, we have built a system that incorporates directory, curriculum vitae, and faculty expert functions. It features a web interface for faculty, faculty support staff, public relations staff, and web staff to use in editing the data. The web team built the system with input from faculty members, students, senior staff, and public relations.
