SOFIA: an open source virtual learning environment

Abstract

We demonstrate SOFIA (Sistema Orientado a la Formación Integral y al Aprendizaje, System Oriented Towards Integral Formation and Learning) which is the open-source virtual learning environment developed at the Learning Technologies Laboratory of Universidad Iberoamericana, Ciudad de México (UIA CM). The system aims to improve learning of students at UIA CM by the application of information and communication technologies. The system is integrated with a set of open source developed modules that provide students and academic staff with resources for information sharing, communication and academic management. SOFIA is currently used by most of students and academic staff at UIA CM.
