Web-Based Testing with Classroom Instruction: A First Step Toward Blended Instruction

Abstract

The Florida Department of Revenue (FDOR) uses web-based test with classroom instruction as a first step toward blended instruction. The tax classes are held as instructor-led and the students take the test online within two weeks after the class. Training staff develops multiple-choice tests on SATS, which technology staff has developed for electronic survey, so the students can take the web-based test at their own workstations. SATS is so flexible that it allows individual instructors to select different variables such as multiple-take, time limit, allow-back, etc. After the pilot with web-based tests for six courses, instructors developed web-based testing guidelines, and recommended some changes on SATS. More instructor-led courses will use web-based tests. The presenters will demonstrate SATS, share tips for developing effective multiple-choice tests and web-based testing guidelines, and will make recommendations for its use by school teachers.
