Using Multimedia to Teach Use-of-Force Principles to US Government Law-Enforcement Personnel

Abstract

I describe the development of a computer-based multimedia module to teach Coast Guard boarding officers about when and how to use force. I discuss the theoretical basis for using multimedia delivery systems, which emphasizes the cognitive aspects of the learning tasks. I also examine some practical design and delivery considerations, with a focus on environmental and organizational limitations.
