Comparing a Local School District’s Teacher Use of Computing With National Survey Results
AbstractFunded by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education, the Center for Research on Information Technology and Organizations conducted a national survey of schools and teachers entitled, "Teaching, Learning, and ill discuss a modified local version of this survey administered to a large diverse suburban school district. The purpose of this local survey was to provide a comprehensive needs assessment focusing on the usage patterns and opinions of teachers toward computing. This paper will summarize the local survey results and then go on to compare the local results with the national survey results drawn from selected reports posted on the Internet. An outline of district plans to use the survey results in guiding the implementation of its technology plan will also be presented.
