Letter from Nimrod Booker Allen to Irene B. Riley, the General Secretary of the Griswold Young Women's Christian Association, written on September 13, 1955. Allen apologizes for not being able to attend a dinner in Riley's honor, but commends her for the work she has done for social welfare in Columbus, Ohio. Allen was an advocate for interracial understanding in Columbus, Ohio, and across the United States. He organized the Columbus Urban League, as well as Frontiers of America, which developed African American leadership in the Americas.Date
