Abstract
This article was written only a couple of days after the tragic terror attack against World Trade Center in New York, and Pentagon in Washington. The author is worried that the tragedy that has happened to the United States of America will lead to a reaction against Islam and Muslims everywhere. Alas, such tragedies tend to whip up strong patriotic emotions that can easily lead to seeing the world in terms of we and them, and demonizing an Islamic “other”. Nussbaum tries in this very situation to reinforce the message of cosmopolitanism, by drawing upon our capacity to see each other as fully human, as reasonable and emotional humans.Date
