Abstract

The Islamic communities in Spain have evolved at once to a social modernization process. The State’s new democratic basis provided a wide recognition of the freedom of conscience and protection of minority confessions, symbolized in the 1992’s Agreements. The deep transformations in immigration, security and multicultural issues have encouraged their functional evolution, beyond the religious associations towards a novel profile like political and sociological lobbies.
