Abstract

<p>Este articulo explora una visión entrelazada de las vidas y las obras Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda (1814-1873) y Carolina Coronado (1820-1911) a lo largo de las décadas centrales del siglo XIX, en que ambas se fueron (re)inventando como celebridades literarias. El texto reconstruye los contextos discursivos desde los que las dos emergieron como producto de culturas políticas liberales diferentes, asociada al moderantismo la primera, al liberalismo avanzado, la segunda. Como tales, representaron modelos de feminidad y talento alternativos y en pugna. En este contexto, pretende destacar la importancia y los diversos acentos de una reflexión cacofónica a través de sus propias voces en competencia personal y política en medio de unos imaginarios liberales que las encumbró mientras la estigmatizaba como símbolos de desorden moral y sexual. Desde mediados de los años cuarenta, canonizada la escritora cubana como “poeta,” Coronado se fue redefiniendo a sí misma y a toda una generación de escritoras a lo largo de los siguientes diez años, a través de una reflexión estructuralmente irónica, paradójica, a favor del genio sublime de Avellaneda y, al mismo tiempo, en contra de su masculinización y de todos los temores que ésta encarnaba. En este sentido, la perspectiva biográfica me permite dibujar un trasfondo subjetivo y vital cambiante, cuyo resultado fue la cristalización en los textos de un conjunto de voces de mujeres que se (re)inventaron en un mundo de hombres. </p><p><em>Abstract</em></p><p><em>This article traces an intertwined vision of the lives and works of Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda (1814-1873) and Carolina Coronado (1820-1911) throughout the middle decades of the Nineteenth Century, as they (re)invented themselves as literary celebrities. The text reconstructs the discursive contexts from which they emerged as products of different Liberal political cultures; Avellaneda associated with moderantism, Coronado with progressivism. As such, they represented competing and alternative models of femininity and talent. In this context, it underlines the importance of the different emphases of a cacophonic reflection that came about throughout their own personally and politically competing voices in the midst of Liberal imaginaries that both praised them and stigmatized them as symbols of moral and sexual disorder. From the mid-1840, once Avellaneda was canonized as a “poet,” Coronado redefined herself, and a whole generation of women writers during the following ten years, throughout a structurally ironical, paradoxical reflection, in favor of Avellaneda’s sublime genius, and, at the same time, against her masculinization and all the fears she embodied. Along these lines, a biographical perspective allows me to draw a subjective and vital changing self, that crystalized in the texts of a set of women’s voices who re(invented themselves) in a world of men. </em></p>
