Abstract
"Desde hace más de un siglo la palabra canuto, en su carácter popular, ha servido para denominar a los evangélicos en Chile. Las veces que la palabra es proferida carga consigo un acento peyorativo y estigmatizante que establece un referente imaginario de un sujeto religioso tipo que ocupa un lugar y una función al interior de la cultura. El concepto debe su origen al pastor metodista Juan Bautista Canut de Bon Gil (1846-1896), de origen español y ex jesuita católico que trabajó en la obra evangélica protestante en Chile al final de la centuria decimonónica" ["For over a century the word spliff in his popular character, It has served to denominate evangelicals in Chile. The times that the word is uttered accent carries with it a pejorative and stigmatizing which establishes an imaginary reference of a religious subject present type a place and a role within the culture. The concept owes its origin the Methodist pastor Juan Bautista Canut de Bon Gil (1846-1896), source Spanish and former Catholic Jesuit who worked in Protestant evangelical work in Chile at the end of the nineteenth century"]

Export search results
