Abstract

"It has been observed that educational textbooks can be a valuable source to the historian as shedding some light on beliefs, opinions and attitudes prevalent at the time of publication. 1 The observation is not without merit and forms the basis for the present article in which a number of Baptist educational textbooks, published in the seventeenth century, will be reviewed with the object of ascertaining what information they provide concerning the place occupied by Baptist.s in seventeenth century England and their attitudes on a number of matters."
