AbstractIn this article I investigate the present role of the teaching of stochastical notions in the Brazilian elementary school and its importance to the constitution of the contemporary social actor and to the establishment of Statistical Education in the Mathematics Education perspective. I also review studies in the area of teaching and learning of stochastics, both national and international. I believe that this study will be significantly beneficial both to elementary school teachers and researchers in the area.
