Abstract
"The structure and message of John 13.1-17.26 continue to occupy interpreters. However, some unanimity of opinion seems to be indicated by Fernando F. Segovia who recently wrote: "Nowadays, hardly any exegete would maintain that these chapters constitute a literary unity in their present form". 1 There can be no doubt that the last discourse in the Fourth Gospel, as we now have it, is the result of a long literary and faith journey of a given community in the early Church. Modern redactional studies of the last discourse have discovered important traces of that faith journey, as it is reflected in its literary expression"
